how was i born into so much loss? and why was i born with my hands clasped tight? what kind of miracles are there to face, when i've already seen over the horizon and found nothing for myself but a world unturned and desolate?

what kind of holiness is there to mete? and must i remain in prayer for you? shall i prostrate for an unyielding in hopes i reach a mollusk corpse dug up and made divine? because i know my love for you is bigger than religion. but i don't think i believe in god anymore.

vayne altapascine's second zine, ruins, prayers, traveling at an unspecified velocity, comes right on the heels of the last, attempting to find messages from a messiah after her journey into the horizon passes into frustration and loss.

whereas, naglalayag carries grief and holds it dear, ruins takes grief and smashes it against a wall. it's for love that ended too quickly, for hurt you could never avoid, and for the loved ones you fight with and lose in every universe. perhaps you're not as damned as you think you are. but ruins argues, "after all this, does that even matter?"

about the author

hi! i'm vayne altapascine, a multiply-disabled plural trans girl from up diliman. when we’re not writing about love or being broken in some new, awful way, we’re usually on twitter (@pressedandroses) or on cohost (@vayne), thinking about disability studies, communities of care, and learning how to take care of each other. we make webweaves and write papers and educational discussions on that stuff too.

currently working under SINAG and trying our best to be a philosophy major, we’re here to fight like hell to save ourself, each other, and for the ones still living.
